San Diego Wheelmen Ride List

July – August 2010

All Rides Leave at the Time Listed Riders must carry spare tubes, tire repair kit, air pump plus critical water and nutritional bar. HELMETS ARE MANDATORY. Participation is not limited to members, but please consider joining after participating in at least 5 rides or after becoming a frequent participant. Minors under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

JULY 3rd SAT 7:30AM 80 Mi. (B4D) Mira Mar Lake/Elfin Forest/Coast Ride.  Meet John Adams (619/851-4777) at the Presidio Park middle parking lot across from the museum for a brisk paced ride to Mira Mar Lake, Lake Hodges, through Elfin Forest and back to the coast via La Costa Blvd.  Food stop at the Pannikin.  There will be plenty of re-groups. Bring two water bottles and power bars. If extreme heat over 90 route is up the coast and back.

 

JULY 4th SUN 9:00AM Show and Go Ride.  Meet at the Mission Bay Visitors Center for a ride to be decided by the participants. 

 

JULY 10th SAT 8:30AM 40+ Mi. (M3C) Swami's Ride. Meet Phil Young (Home: 858.272.6264 or Cell: 858.692.6564) at the parking lot just north of the Mission Bay Visitor's Center for this moderate ride up the coast to Swami's Beach in Encinitas and back. No food stop. Rain cancels.

 

JULY 11th SUN 8:30AM 35 Mi. (M2C/D) Helix from the South.  Meet Tom Pirnat (619/397-9014) in the Von's parking lot on the corner of 805 and Telegraph Canyon Road in East Chula Vista for a moderate ride that loops around Spring Valley and to the top of Mount Helix.  Snack stop on the way back.

 

JULY 17th SAT 6:45AM 72 Mi (M4B) San Juan Capistrano Ride.  Meet Rich Murphy (H 619-449-9189 Cell 619-249-8786) at the downtown San Diego train station located at Kettner and Broadway.  Amtrak train leaves at 7:05am (Cost $20.00 includes bike) and arrives in San Juan Capistrano at 8:28am.  We will stop for lunch wherever the group decides.  

 

JULY 18th SUN 8:30AM 40 Mi. (M2C) Streets of San Diego Ride.  Meet Suzanne Behrendt (858-603-1750) at the parking lot just north of Mission Bay Visitor Center for this up and down ride around Point Loma, Balboa Park, downtown San Diego, and Mission Hills.  Lunch in Old Town at the end of the ride.  

 

JULY 24th SAT 8:30AM 58 Mi. (M4C) Aviara Pkwy Ride.  Meet Myles Pomeroy 858-565-7262 at the parking lot just north of the Mission Bay Visitors Center for this moderate ride to Aviara Parkway in Carlsbad with a return along the coast. Snack stop.   

 

JULY 25th SUN 9:00AM 35 Mi. (S2B) Coronado Ride.  Meet Tom Pirnat (619/397-9014) in the parking lot just north of the Mission Bay Visitor’s Center this social ride to Imperial Beach, up the Strand to Coronado and back on the ferry.  Bring money for the ferry and lunch.  A great ride to burn off that lactic acid from the 72 miler on Saturday.

 

JULY 31st SAT 8:30AM 50 Mi. (M4B) Lake Hodges Ride. Meet Len Nathe (858-270-2564) at the Studio Diner for a moderate ride to Lake Hodges with a return via the Del Dios highway and Rancho Santa Fe.  Lunch at the diner upon return.


AUG 1st SUN 8:30 AM 40 Mi. (M3C/D) Calle Cristobal Ride.  Meet Tom Pirnat (619/397-9014) in the parking lot just north of the Mission Bay Visitor’s Center for this moderate ride climbing Calle Cristobal and returning via Scripps Poway Pkwy/ Pomerado/Miramar.  We will stop at Einstein’s Bagels on the way back.

 

AUG 7th SAT 8:30AM 50 Mi. (M3D) Three Hill Climb Ride.  Meet Myles Pomeroy (858/565-7262) in the parking lot just north of the Mission Bay Visitor’s Center for this ride climbing Soledad, La Jolla Shores and Torrey Pines with a food stop at Java Depot.

 

AUG 8th SUN 8:30AM 40+ Mi. (M3C) Swami's Ride. Meet Phil Young (Home: 858.272.6264 or Cell: 858.692.6564) at the parking lot just north of the Mission Bay Visitor's Center for this moderate ride up the coast to Swami's Beach in Encinitas and back. No food stop. Rain cancels.

 

AUG 14th SAT 8:30AM 50 Mi. (M4A) Imperial Beach Pier.  Meet Len Nathe (858-270-2564) at the Mission Bay Visitors Center parking lot for a moderate ride to the Imperial Beach Pier. We will return through downtown and Hillcrest for an option of lunch in Old Town.

 

AUG 15th SUN 8:30AM 40+ Mi. (M3C) Rancho Santa Fe Ride. Meet Mike Kirk (858-699-0670) behind the Barnes and Noble Bookstore located in the shopping center at the corner of Del Mar Heights Rd & El Camino Real for this moderate scenic ride around Rancho Santa Fe & Del Mar.

 

AUG 21st SAT 8:30AM 42 Mi. (M3C) Rancho Santa Fe Ride.  Meet Myles Pomeroy (858/565-7262) at the parking lot just north of the Mission Bay Visitor’s Center for a moderate ride to Rancho Santa Fe and Carmel Valley with a food stop at Einstein’s Bagel shop.

 

AUG 22nd 9:00AM 42+ Mile (S/M3C) Rancho Santa Fe Ride.  Meet Mike Samyn (313-683-2240) at the north side parking lot of Mission Bay Visitors Center.  Please join us for an easy to moderately paced group ride up through Rose Canyon and then up into scenic Rancho Santa Fe. We will then return down the coast from Cardiff back to Mission Bay.  Bring money to stop at Java Depot for coffee/juice and snacks before climbing over Torrey Pines on our return trip.

 

AUG 28th SAT 8:00AM (M4B A Summer Century Ride.  Meet Len Nathe (858-270-2564) at De Anza Cove parking lot for a moderately paced 100+ mi. ride to San Clemente Pier for lunch. We will go through Camp Pendleton, so bring an ID. For a ride of 70 miles, you can meet the group at the Encinitas Coaster parking lot at 9:30AM.

 

AUG 29th SUN 8:45AM 53 Mi. (M4C) La Costa-Encinitas Coastal Ride. Meet Myles Pomeroy (858-565-7262) at the De Anza Cove parking lot on Mission Bay for a coastal ride to La Costa then inland a bit through Encinitas with a snack stop.
