March - April 2010

All Rides Leave at the Time Listed Riders must carry spare tubes, tire repair kit, air pump plus critical water and nutritional bar. HELMETS ARE MANDATORY. Participation is not limited to members, but please consider joining after participating in at least 5 rides or after becoming a frequent participant. Minors under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

FEB 27th SAT 8:30AM 70 MI. (4MD) Breadbasket Ride (rescheduled) Meet Myles Pomeroy (858-565-7262) at the SE corner of Linda Vista Rd/Via Las Cumbres (parking available on Via Las Cumbres or County Bd of Education parking lot) for this hilly ride to the Breadbasket Restaurant in Alpine for lunch. Rain cancels

 

FEB 28th SUN 9:00AM 40 Mi. (M2C) Streets of San Diego Ride.  Meet Suzanne Behrendt (619-212-0475) at the parking lot just north of Mission Bay Visitor Center for this up and down ride around Point Loma, Balboa Park, and San Diego.  Lunch in Old Town at the end of the ride.

 

MAR 6th SAT 8:45AM 45 Mi. (M3C) South Bay Point Loma Ride.  Meet John Acuff (619-647-3212) at Pepper Park in National City.  Up the Strand and catching the ferry back across.  Out to Point Loma and back to the start.  Lunch at Subway on Scott Street.  Joint ride with San Diego Bicycle Touring Society.

 

 MAR 7th SUN 9:00AM 40Mi. (M3D) Scripps-Lakeside Ride.  Meet David Johnson, (858-483-5877) in the Miramar Lake parking lot (Thos Bros 1209-H3) in Scripps Ranch for this scenic loop over to Lakeside.  This ride has two challenging climbs and long stretches without traffic lights.  Bring money for mid-ride snack stop.  Joint ride with the Sierra Club.  Rain cancels.

MAR 13th SAT 9:00AM 40+ Mi. (M3C) Swami's Ride.  Meet Phil Young (Home: 858.272.6264 or Cell: 858.692.6564) at the parking lot just north of the Mission Bay Visitor's Center for this moderate ride up the coast to Swami's Beach in Encinitas and back. No food stop. Rain Cancels.

MAR 14th SUN 8:45AM 48 Mi. (M3D) Harbison Canyon ride. Meet Myles Pomeroy (858-565-7262) at Lake Murray upper parking lot (entrance off Kiowa Dr.) for a ride up Harbison Canyon and back via Alpine and Old Hwy 80. Joint Ride with Sierra Club. Rain cancels.  

MAR 20th SAT 9:00AM 50 Mi (M4D) Double Cross Ride.  Meet Sinclair Chaffee (619-301-8713) in the parking lot north of the old La Mesa Post Office near Spring St and Allison for this great ride.  Bring water and snacks.  We can stop near the end if the group decides.

MAR 21st SUN 8:45AM 45 Mi. (M3D) East County Ramble.  Meet Suzanne Behrendt (619-212-0475) at the parking area by Denny’s on Navajo and Fletcher Pkwy for this backcountry loop.  Bring money for lunch stop at the end of the ride.  Rain cancels.  Shared Ride with Sierra Club.

MAR 27th SAT 8:30AM 53 Mi. (M4D) Ramona Ride. Meet Myles Pomeroy (858-565-7262) at the upper parking lot at Lake Miramar for a moderately paced ride with about 3,800 ft. of climbing. We will return from Ramona via Highland Valley. Rain cancels.

MAR 28th SUN 8:30AM 60 Mi. (M4C) OR 9:00AM 42 Mi. (S3C).  Meet John Moran (401-419-3772) at 8:30 at Canyonside Community Park (Canyonside Park Dr off Black Mountain Rd) for a moderate plus tour of Scripps Ranch, Rancho Bernardo, Carmel Valley and Rancho Penasquitos, or meet Mary Beth (617-922-3255) at 9:00 for a slower, shorter version of the same ride.  Both groups meet for lunch near the end of the ride.

APR 3rd SAT 8:30AM 60 Mi. (M4D) East Grade Palomar. Meet Len Nathe (858-270-2564) at Dudleys in Santa Ysabel for this beautiful climb of Mount Palomar We will go out and return via Mesa Grande with a stop for lunch at Mothers on Palomar.  Bring warm clothes for possible cool weather on the top.

APR 4th SUN 8:30AM 50 Mi. (M4B) South Bay Ride.  Meet Suzanne Behrendt (619-212-0475) at the north side parking lot at Mission Bay Visitors Center for this ride to Imperial Beach and back up the Strand.  Opt out point after ferry for less mileage. Bring money for snack stop at ferry or back on the city side.  Shared ride with Sierra Club.  We will leave at 8:30 sharp because of the ferry schedule.  

APR 10th SAT 9:00AM 45 Mi. (M4D) Cuyamaca-Julian Loop.  Meet Sinclair Chaffee (619-301-8713) in the parking lot in front of the school camp near MP 6 on Hwy 79 for this beautiful ride.  Bring some water and snacks.  There will probably be two stops along the way.

APR 11th SUN 8:30AM 35 Mi. (M3C) South Bay Loop with a Twist.  Meet Tom Pirnat (619/397-9014) in the Von's parking lot on the corner of the 805 and Telegraph Canyon Road in East Chula Vista for this moderate ride with a couple of hills, in and around Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, and Bonita.  We will stop at Jamba Juice along the way.

APR 17th SAT 9:00AM 40+ Mi. (M3C) Swami's Ride.  Meet Phil Young (Home: 858.272.6264 or Cell: 858.692.6564) at the parking lot just north of the Mission Bay Visitor's Center for this moderate ride up the coast to Swami's Beach in Encinitas and back. No food stop. Rain Cancels.

APR 18th SUN  8:30AM 49 Mi. (M2D) OR 9:00AM 32/37 Mi. (S/M2C).  Meet John Moran (401-419-3772) at 8:30 AM at Canyonside Community Park (Canyonside Park Dr off Black Mountain Rd) in Rancho Penasquitos for this moderate+ ride or meet MB (617-922-3255) at 9:00 AM at the same location for a social/moderate ride with a 32 or 37 mile option. Both rides meet for a lunch stop 8 miles from end.

APR 24th SAT 9:00AM 48 Mi. (M3D) Laguna Triangle.  Meet Tom Pirnat (619/397-9014) in the parking lot behind Major’s Diner for this classic hill climb in reverse.  We will stop twice along the way but bring plenty of water and snacks.  Rain or snow cancels – call ride leader in case of doubt.

APR 25th SUN 8:45AM 42 Mi. (M3D) Calle Cristobal Climb. Meet Myles Pomeroy (858-565-7262) at De Anza Cove in Mission Bay Park for this moderate ride featuring two climbs – Calle Cristobal and Pomerado Rd. Snack stop at Einsteins on the way back to start.
